Searching for casual positions can be an utter waste of time, especially if you’re not interested in working part time. Why would you bother looking for a legitimate data entry job online if you’re not attracted to the prospect of working from home as a typist? It’s hard to work some people out, isn’t it? There are those among us who get obsessed with employment opportunities and there are others who never give any thought to their career path. Boy, am I glad I established my data entry business when I did? Talk about striking while the iron is hot!

I literally squandered two years of my life fantasising about getting a job on the internet. In the end I created my own data entry position out of nothing, and the rest is history or will be eventually. Legitimate online typing jobs are few and far between but don’t let that stop you from spending hour upon hour scouring the world wide web for the easy way out. I wanted to work from home more than anything else on Earth so I bit the bullet and made my dreams come true. It doesn’t have to be a data entry job either, it could be a job driving a garbage truck.

A lot of things have changed since yesterday. Take my opinion about part time jobs for example. The thought of part time work would’ve made me angry yesterday but today I’m open to discussing it. As long as the employment situation is permanent I’m happy to try it, but I just hate the idea of being in a casual job and not having any security or long term vision. Establishing my own data entry position a couple of years ago gave me the opportunity to work from home and, as a result, outside influences are less likely to have a negative impact.

Everyone knows it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind. I’m not a woman but I reserve the right to back flip occasionally. I really feel sorry for anyone looking for an internet based job at the moment. Trying to find a part time data entry job must be like looking for a raisin in a bucketful of cricket heads. Sometimes when I’m entering data it feels like I’m trying to push a square peg through a round hole but sometimes it just flows like a river to the sea. Someone asked me recently if I’d prefer to work full time down in the mines or part time as a data entry operator. I smiled coyly and told them the latter appealed more.

It’s hard to avoid being stressed when your job is not secure. My casual data entry job is great but could terminate at any time without explanation or warning. My success is based on maintaining a certain level of traffic to my websites and blogs. Search results are out of my hand so I have no control over how many people get to read my articles. It’s hard to sustain any sort of happiness when you’re not sure when the money is going to dry up. Does casual employment kill? Not directly but over a long period of time…..probably.

I’m hoping my self-proclaimed data entry position starts paying like a full time job soon. I certainly put in enough hours to expect a better return. If I was working on a more casual basis then I’d be happy to receive the pay I’m getting now, but I’m busting my gut and for what? Nothing….or almost nothing. If I didn’t enjoy entering data so much I’d be more annoyed than I am at the moment. Casual data entry jobs cause more workers to become ill and despondent. I don’t know if that’s true but it sure does sound dramatic, doesn’t it?

If you’re happy to just scrape by, paying your rent every fortnight and having enough left over for groceries, then my casual approach works. If you want to be a millionaire you’re not going to do it by following my lead. I’d like to earn more money but I’m too laid back. In order to accumulate wealth I’d have to enter a lot more data than I’m willing to enter. My casual data entry job is boring. When I reach the point where I believe I’ve made enough money I have to stop. After all, you’re only as good as the last batch of data you entered, aren’t you?

One day I’d like to travel around Australia, entering data as I go. People would point at my brightly coloured van and say something about how cool I look. I would stop every so often and type a blog post on my laptop computer and publish it next time I had access to the internet. Would I be Australia’s first mobile data entry operator? I don’t know and to tell you the truth, I don’t care. My main concern at the moment is being able to pay for life’s necessities like rent and chocolate.
