Data entry clerks type for cash. They also do other clerical work and office related activities and duties. I’m the first to admit that the work I do from home doesn’t benefit anyone but me, my family and my fans but I’m not apologising or making any excuses. The best thing about working from home is not having to answer to anyone. If I sleep in and start work late I am not hurting anyone but myself so I don’t have to make up excuses or act obsequiously. I just get on with the job at hand and do my best to catch up.

Entering data in Australia is basically the same as entering data anywhere else in the world. Most data entry operators work for a company. They are set tasks which they must complete within certain time frames and the data they need to enter is usually supplied. I couldn’t find a company to supply me with data so I just started making it up. Before too long I realised that I was a self proclaimed data entry operator and the world was my oyster. My blog posts have been described as irreverent, irrelevant, funny, weird and stupid. You can’t please all of the people all of the time!

After typing a new blog post for 134 days in a row my brain finally snapped and I needed a few weeks off to collect my thoughts. Now I am back with a slightly less ambitious agenda. I plan to upload a new article to this site every three days or so. Entering data had become too much of a chore so it was important for me to sit back and take stock of the situation. There were times over the last month when I thought about getting a normal job. The thought of working from home in my data entry business did not appeal at all. I’m just going to take baby steps in an effort to complete my comeback successfully.

I thought it would be easy to find internet jobs for typists but I was way off the mark. Ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper I’ve wanted to work from home as a data entry operator. After a long futile search I gave up and started writing blog posts and articles for my network of websites and the jury is still out on whether or not I have been successful. Measuring success is an ambiguous task and open to interpretation but most people would say making money would be a pretty important indicator. Only time will tell!

A lot of people are searching for a legitimate self employment situation but only a handful of lucky individuals will ever go on to find the online job of their dreams. I made my own luck when I developed my own career out of nothing. I publish my own ideas and thoughts on this blog and call it a data entry job. How convenient! Anyway, that’s what I do. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If you want something done right you’d best do it yourself. That has been my motto ever since I decided to work from home as a data entry operator.

It’s hard to avoid being stressed when your job is not secure. My casual data entry job is great but could terminate at any time without explanation or warning. My success is based on maintaining a certain level of traffic to my websites and blogs. Search results are out of my hand so I have no control over how many people get to read my articles. It’s hard to sustain any sort of happiness when you’re not sure when the money is going to dry up. Does casual employment kill? Not directly but over a long period of time…..probably.

I was up until three in the morning typing articles and blog posts. I don’t know how anyone could work the night shift for an extended period. I’d go insane. I think evening jobs wreck workers. No one can function properly if they exert energy while they’re supposed to be asleep. I was stupid to stay up so late last night but I think you would find a lot of data entry operators who work from home keep varied and unusual hours. The quality of the data you enter begins to wane once you’ve pushed yourself to work beyond the normal working hours.

I just had an afternoon sleep. Try doing that if you don’t work from home. I really should’ve been typing this blog post about eight hours ago but better late than never. Creating my own data entry position from scratch was the best thing I ever did. It doesn’t pay really well at the moment but I’m hoping it will one day. The thing I like best is the amount of freedom I have, although I have to be careful not to get caught sleeping on the job. I’d love to be able to employ another data entry operator one day. I just think it would be great to be the boss of someone.

I know it’s not fashionable but I’ve been thinking about heading south for the summer. Are there any typing jobs in Melbourne? It gets too hot in the little town I live in and the house I rent has no insulation. The good thing about working from home is that it doesn’t matter where my home is as long as I base my job there. So I could move to Melbourne if I wanted to and make money by typing my blog posts every day. I hate moving though. It’s so complicated. The life of a data entry operator wasn’t supposed to be this hard.

I truly believe that if I enter data every day, one day I will wake up and find out I’ve become rich. Well, it’s more of a hope than a belief. At the moment I’m just doing my best and hoping I’ll be rewarded for my labour. If being a data entry operator means being poor for the rest of my life then I don’t really want a bar of it. Working from home can be really frustrating sometimes. At the moment it’s really frustrating. I work my fingers to the bone, typing like a whirlwind, and I just can’t see that it’s making a difference. I must persevere because I don’t see any alternative.
