I was so naïve when I first decided I wanted to work from home I thought I’d be able to do a Google search, find a legitimate online job site and have a free data entry kit mailed to my door. I was such a fool. It takes a lot more than just impressive typing skills to get an internet based position these days. You have to be adept at sorting through scams and other shady material in order to find your pot of gold at the end of the proverbial vocational rainbow. Data entry operators aren’t usually perceived as being the sharpest tools in the shed so avoiding heartache doesn’t necessarily come naturally to them.

I wish you could walk a mile in my shoes. I wish there were enough typing jobs for everyone who wanted one. I wish I could make more money working from home as a data entry operator than the average lawyer makes in a day in court. Well, there goes my three wishes and not one addresses the whole world peace issue. People seem to be more selfish these days, don’t they? Most data entry operators care only about themselves and worry only about finding the data they need to enter to survive.

Home based data entry typists work less and play more than those employees doing clerical jobs for big companies. There may not be an ‘i’ in team but if you look carefully (and ignore the ‘a’) there is a backwards ‘me’ at the end. It is easy to lose your identity when your job is to be a small cog in a big machine. That’s why I chose to work from home as a data entry operator and be my own boss. I am an individual and I choose to operate on my own terms. I don’t like being told what to do but I do like getting paid when pay day comes around.

A friend of mine reckons that life is too short to work from home. He says that when you commute to your place of employment it is much easier to separate your work life from your home life. I understand the point he is trying to make but…..I don’t feel a great need to keep my work and home lives apart. I quite enjoy entering data for a living and I’d much rather do it from home than have to drive through traffic for half an hour, there and back, for the privilege of making up the numbers in some crowded office.

You can’t eat money so don’t work for peanuts! That’s what I always say. It doesn’t make much sense but it always gets a response. Doctors don’t feel guilty about making lots of cash so why should a data entry operator feel any different. Both professions are very important in the scheme of things. Just because a data entry operator doesn’t save lives doesn’t mean his or her job is not vital to the world’s delicate employment systems. Where would the planet be today if not for the services of those nameless heroes performing their unsung clerical work?

If you had the opportunity to work from home legitimately would you take it? I’d strongly advise you to embrace the chance and make the most of any positive employment situation that arises. I was exposed to several home-based business opportunities a few years ago and I was lucky enough to be able to take the bull by horns and grab the ball and run with it. I’ve been entering data constantly ever since and working from home in the serene environs of my own office. That’s something you have to expect when you are one of Australia’s most handsome data entry clerks.

I don’t like the work I do, but as long as I get paid on time I don’t care. What is job satisfaction anyway? At the end of the day it’s all about the money, isn’t it? Data entry operators have to eat just like everybody else, so data entry operators have to work just as hard as everybody else. A lot of people think typists have it easy due to the fact there’s no heavy lifting or physical exertion involved in their duties. The fact of the matter is that typing requires great mental strength and patience mixed with a degree of perseverance.

After spending (wasting) several thousand hours looking for work on the internet I only have one question to ask. Where are the jobs? It shouldn’t be this hard to find a data entry position or a job as a virtual assistant. Anyone with any previous clerical or administrative employment experience should be able find a pathway to their new career online, but that is not proving to be the case. I’ve actually given up on ever getting a home based data entry position and that’s why I limit my typing activities to writing articles for this blog.

Apparently there is a magic land where people work from home performing clerical tasks like data entry all day long. They work part time in the evenings, typing to the beats of their healthy, happy hearts. They all have legitimate, online computer jobs and they all earn more money than doctors do in the real world. Meanwhile, back to reality and there are no more positions vacant. The only data entry jobs are the ones where you have to commute to an office in the city. Bugger that! I’m going back to Fantasy Island…

Does anyone read my blog posts? Are these articles making a difference to anyone’s lives or am I just another glorified data entry operator working from home for little reward? You don’t have to respond to those questions, I already know the answers. I don’t really mind if no one ever reads what I write. The main reason I publish this rubbish is to practice my typing and get my head around my current employment environment. If my thoughts don’t make sense to you it doesn’t mean I’m not a good data entry operator, it just means I’m not on your wave length.
